Israel ‘The Last Stylebender' Adesanya won the middleweight title this past Saturday with a second-round knockout victory over Robert ‘Bobby Knuckles' Whittaker in the UFC 243 headliner in Melbourne, Australia.
Adesanya will most likely make his first title defense against Paulo Costa in early 2020. However, he's been saying for months that he eventually wants to move up to light heavyweight and dethrone Jon ‘Bones' Jones.
Jon Jones vs Israel Adesanya. Bovada.LV opened Israel Adesanya as a (+285) favorite! Absolute insanity! That's all that is. It has moved down since to (+225) and I expect this one to get much closer to even odds as time goes on. I can't wrap my head around that. Bovada SportsInt. Pinnacle SportBet Intertops Sportsbook BetDSI FanDuel DraftKings Props; Daniel Cormier +177 +170 +175 +170 +165 +161 +174 +185 +185 35: Jon Jones. Meanwhile, another respected sportsbook, Bovada, currently has Jones as a large -375 favorite over Adesanya, which is closer to the norm of what a Jon Jones betting line has looked at throughout.
Both fighters have engaged in a war of words for several months. Adesanya said in an interview earlier this week that he'd like to face Jones in early 2021 at 'Raiders Stadium in Las Vegas.'
Beforehand, he feels like he should defend his middleweight strap a few times, as he told ESPN's Ariel Helwani on Monday. Jones then replied to Adesanya's comments:
Whatever the case, Bovada opened odds for this potential showdown earlier today. The offshore betting shop sent Jones out as a -550 favorite, leaving ‘The Last Stylebender' as a +375 underdog.
Also, BetOnline opened Adesanya as a -140 favorite vs. Costa on Sunday. That number is now up to -175 with Costa as the +150 underdog.
The 30-year-old Adesanya is 18-0 in his mixed martial arts career, going 7-0 in the UFC since his Octagon debut on Feb. 11 of 2018. He has earned four Performance of the Night bonuses and two Fight of the Night awards in his seven appearances for the promotion in a 20-month span.
UFC 182 Las Vegas Betting Odds & Predictions: Saturday Jan 3rd Jon Bones Jones vs Daniel CormierWednesday, December 31, 2014by Admin
Daniel Cormier knows the moment is coming. At some point, inside the Octagon against Jon Jones, his world will be rocked. He will be caught with a punch or vicious elbow. Maybe he gets trapped in a submission hold.
It's going to happen, and then he will have to reach deep within himself.
Cormier is a man who not only is undefeated in mixed-martial arts but also has never even lost a single round. And yet he still understands what it means to fight through adversity, despair and unfathomable pain.

He was one of America's most accomplished amateur wrestlers, and yet Cormier always seemed to fall just a little short. He lost in the college Division I finals. He finished fourth at the 2004 Olympics, and then four years later ended up in the hospital instead of holding a gold medal when a sudden illness prevented him from even competing.
But those disappointments were nothing compared to enduring a series of devastating real-life tragedies as Cormier lost people close to him. The worst was the death of an infant daughter who, years later, remains a constant presence in his thoughts.
So, yes, Cormier is well-aware that UFC light heavyweight champion Jones, the world's best pound-for-pound fighter, likely will put him in a position where he has to peel himself off the canvas. But Cormier believes that after you've been to the dark places where he has, he will rise back up. He has reached the biggest stage of his life, at age 35 and against all odds, for a reason.
'I'm not supposed to be here,' Cormier said quietly after a recent workout at his training gym in San Jose, Calif., the American Kickboxing Academy. 'I've been somewhere where I couldn't see any hope, any reason for living. That's what people don't understand. That's what Jon Jones doesn't understand. I had to pick up a broken man and rebuild him. And now I have this chance to do something special.
'That's why I'm going to win this. Life has taught me that you can't give up. Ever. I'm not going to lose this chance. I can't.'
